Balfour Beatty order books grows in first 4 months

Published 10th May 2011

Balfour Beatty, Britain's largest infrastructure contractor, said its order book had grown since the end of 2010 and trading so far this year was in line with its expectations.

The company said on Tuesday its businesses had adapted well to the uncertainty in government capital expenditure in the UK and the United States in the first four months of the year and that it was "encouraged" by the progress made so far.

Balfour Beatty, which operates in 80 countries and offers a range of infrastructure services, said its order book was ahead of the 15.2 billion pounds it reported at the end of 2010, despite a hit from foreign exchange translation.

"The medium and long-term prospects for infrastructure markets in the group's geographies remain positive," Balfour Beatty said in a statement.
